The SPRISKA Story
Special Insurance Services, Inc. “SIS” was founded in 1966 by William H. Kelso as a specialty insurance brokerage agency. SIS’s original principal line of business was motorcycle insurance, which at that time, was still considered a specialty line of business. During the next twenty years, Mr. Kelso successfully grew his insurance operations by expanding its product offering. In 1985, Mr. Kelso founded Springfield Fire & Casualty Company “SF&C”. SF&C was principally focused on providing Illinois Insurance Producers with a market for their specialty insurance needs including general liability, liquor liability, motorcycle, watercraft and non-standard personal automobile.
In May 2009, the insurance operations of SIS and SF&C were acquired by Mr. Kelso’s son, William D. Kelso, and a close group of his associates by forming their insurance holding company Specialty Risk of America LLC “SRA”. The new management team quickly went to work updating many functional areas of the business including information technology, and recruiting new leadership with fresh vision for the organization.
In 2011, the name of SF&C was changed to Specialty Risk of America, and the “SPRISKA” brand was born. In addition, SIS began to operate under the assumed business name of SPRISKA Brokerage. SPRISKA’s mission is to build trusted relationships with our Producers and Policyholders through our employees’ enduring commitment to deliver exceptional customer service backed by professionalism and integrity in every transaction. SPRISKA has developed a niche focus on serving the insurance needs of the hospitality industry. SPRISKA brokerage specializes in providing a comprehensive market for workers compensation coverage. In 2013, SPRISKA successfully expanded its insurance operations into Indiana, and additional growth plans include state expansion in 2015.
